4th Edition of the Telegraph Schools’ Chess Championship 2013 organised by Alekhine Chess Club was inaugurated by GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly, along with GM Deep Sengupta and GM Ziaur Rahaman (Bangladesh) and also Mr. A.V. Mazirka, Director of Gorky Sadan . This 10 round tournament, with a participation of 435 school children, has players from different states of India and also from Bangladesh and Nepal. Total 179 schools have send their students in this tournament.

In his inaugurated speech GM Ganguly remembered his early days of association with this club “ from this club”, he recalled, “ started my journey at the 1st edition of this tournament from a child player to the summit of a GM”.

He also expressed his hope to see this tournament some day in future, as The International Telegraph Chess Tournament.

Srijan Chatterjee ( 3 years 7 months) and Alaktika Chatterjee ( 4 years) are the youngest boy and youngest girl participating in this tournament.

As expected all the seeded players won their games easily against their unrated opponent. IM Diptayan Ghosh made a short work against his opponent.
